Would you like to help a promising young Latino or Latina build a better future, one hour at a time?
Become a mentor with the Fulfillment Fund. Being a mentor means being a role model for a high school student who could benefit from a relationship with a mature and experienced grown-up. It’s fun, rewarding, and a meaningful way to make a difference in our community.
ABOUT US We are celebrating our 30th year of helping disadvantaged students attending urban public high schools in Los Angeles to graduate from high school and complete their post-secondary education. Our mentors are matched with high school students in need of extra support to meet their goals for the future. ABOUT OUR STUDENTS Approximately 77% of our mentored students are Latino; many are the first in their families to attend college. In some of the high schools the Fulfillment Fund serves, the graduation rate dips below 40%. Yet on average, students receiving our comprehensive college access services – including mentoring – graduate at twice the rate of their peers. ABOUT OUR MENTORS Mentors are adults who care about teenagers, are good listeners and are reliable. They are from a variety of professions, including law, entertainment, and finance. Currently, approximately 12% of our mentors are Latino. MENTORING COMMITMENT One year minimum. On average, an outing once a month, for half a day. A weekly phone or email check-in. ABOUT THE LOCATION Flexible. You and your student decide where you’d like to go and when you’d like to get together. Possible outings include a trip to the beach or museum, lunch, or volunteering together at a neighborhood non-profit. These experiences help our students to explore new ideas and opportunities. The Fulfillment Fund also organizes fun events for students and mentors to attend. NEXT STEPS Fill out an application. We will contact you to schedule an interview. We will conduct a background check. Attend a one-day training held on Saturdays in our offices. You will be matched with a student once we find the best match for you.
